Reader Sunday
Friends,
The Diocese of York has Sunday September 6th has Reader Sunday. I can’t believe it is a year since the previous one, but I think time is something we are all finding difficult to cope with at the moment.
I have seen my ministry grow over the years, but since March I very much felt as though it had stopped, as I am over a certain age! All those who have been called to public ministry will have seen an absence of that part of our ministry, but God moves us all to serve Him in other ways.
Readers are called to a ministry of preaching and teaching, but as Christians we are all called to serve God in the communities where we live. It is that ministry that we have seen grow, in a variety of ways. Some of us will be phoning people and maybe beginning to see people face to face in a safe environment. Some of us have had to learn how to use our computers in different ways so we can communicate with others.
As Readers we will not be able to gather, later in September, in the Minister to welcome new Readers, to celebrate Reader ministry in this Diocese and to meet up with our Reader friends across the Diocese.
Although we are missing lots of events this year, there is one thing that never changes and has been the anchor throughout this pandemic and that is the love our loving heavenly Father has for each and every one of us whatever happens. So if we cannot celebrate events let us celebrate our Father’s love and care for us all.
