Bottle Cap Mosaics for SNAPPY

by Karen Nash

The Foil for Snappy recycling campaign continues during lockdown. Even though most of the community venues and churches where we have collection boxes are closed you can still recycle your aluminium foil and drinks cans in our supermarket car park collection bins when you do your essential shopping. The nearest ones are at Sainsbury’s and Asda, Monks Cross. Aluminium is used to make oxygen cylinders for hospitals so it’s more important than ever to recycle metal if you can.

During the lockdown I’ve had more time to play with the huge quantity of bottle caps that came in the recycling a couple of months ago. There is such an array of different colours it’s fun to see what pictures you can make. Each design is based on a hexagon grid. You can download hexagon graph paper from the internet to doodle on and a 25x30 grid will give a 2’x3’ picture. I haven’t yet had any pale blue or pale green bottle caps donated so sky and grass are a problem but if you have any ideas for designs please get in touch.
The best designs will be made into jigsaws to sell to raise money for The Snappy Trust, and for fun I’ve been making pictures to cheer everyone up on twitter. For more information email foilforsnappy@gmail.com or follow me on twitter at @foilforsnappy.
