Dunnington Community Support Group

If you are not sure who your local volunteer is, please ring the Revd Nick Bird on 01904 489349 who will put you in touch.

Dear neighbour

The coronavirus outbreak has affected all of us. Whether coping with the illness itself, or the social and economic consequences, the current situation puts a strain on our physical and mental health.

Many people in our community have shown great love through the help and support given to their friends and neighbours. The Dunnington Community Support Group was formed early in the pandemic to help co-ordinate offers of help, so that no-one need be left out.

The group is organised around local teams, each covering a small area. In Spring 2020 each team delivered leaflets to their neighbours, so everyone in the village knew who they could ring if they need a hand. The teams all act locally but share resources and information across Dunnington.

If you would like someone to collect your shopping, or to walk your dog, or if you’d like a friendly chat on the phone, please get in touch with your local contacts. If you can offer to help, please let your local contacts know.

If you want to know more about how the group works, see the Dunnington Community Support Group Structure. And, if you haven’t received a leaflet, or have lost it, don’t worry! Find the contact for your Area Coordinator using this Plan of Dunnington Areas and Area Coordinators, and they will put you in touch with your local contact. If you get stuck, please contact Revd Nick Bird on 01904 489349 or revnickbird@gmail.com who will be happy to help.

These are uncertain and unsettling times, but we can all take comfort in small acts of kindness generously given and graciously received. Please, if you are in any kind of need, know that you are a valued member of our community and there are people living nearby who would like to help.

P.S. If friends or relatives are looking for support, or offering support, in a different part of the country, please direct them to the Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK website, which has a tool to help people locate their local group.

We have compiled a simple list of guidelines for volunteers.

City of York Council has set up the email address covid19help@york.gov.uk for residents to use if they need assistance and have with no other source of help.
