6. Church News

All Souls Service.

Every year on the first Sunday in November we have a Benefice Service when we invite those who have been bereaved in the previous year to a service at St Nicholas Church. We cannot meet in Church this year but there will be a You Tube service with a transcript for those who cannot access it. There will be an opportunity during the service to light your own candle in memory of your loved one. If you would like a copy of the transcript, please let Judith (488331) know and one will be delivered to you.

APCMs

The Benefice churches are having their ACPMs (Annual Church Parochial Meeting) this autumn. Warthill and Holtby have already had theirs. Stockton APCM will be on Tuesday 17 November, 7pm, in Holy Trinity Church. The ACPM for St Nicholas Church will take place on Sunday 22 November (time and location tbc). The number of attendees may have to be limited. Details will be posted in the weekly church newsletter which is on our News page

St Nicholas Church Dunnington needs YOU!

We have several vacancies to be filled at the Annual Meeting on 22 November:

Churchwarden
We need a new church warden to take up duties early in 2021. It is time now to identify a successor to Peter Helm, who is stepping down, to fill this immensely important, fulfilling and rewarding role. Please do consider if you can take this on and speak with Peter, Carole, or Revd Nick for more information.

Representatives on Deanery Synod
Anyone interested please speak to Judith Hewitt, Joan Verrier, Alison Gilmour or Rev Nick Bird.

PCC Members - four to serve until the APCM in 2023 and four to serve until the APCM in 2022
Anyone interested speak to Rev Nick Bird, a churchwarden (Peter Helm and Carole White) or any current member of PCCNomination forms for all the above are available from Eve Scoreby or the churchwardens.

Reset the debt

A campaign calling for debt cancellation for people who have been swept into unavoidable debt in recent months has been launched by churches including the Methodist Church.  It is thought that 6 million people in the UK have fallen behind on rent, council tax and other household bills because of coronavirus and almost one in five have borrowed money to pay for every day essentials such as food.  Find out more about the campaign for a Jubilee and how you can get involved at https://resetthedebt.uk/

Operation Christmas Child

If physically packing shoebox gifts is difficult for you or your group this year, you can still bring great joy to children by donating shoeboxes online. Simply visit shoeboxesonline.org.uk select from a range of gifts which will be packed and sent for you.
