Holy Week and Easter

Sadly we will not be able to celebrate Easter together in a Church building this year, but we can pray and read the readings we would have at Church in our own homes and so be sharing together in this festival.

There will be Easter prayers available in the Churches.

On Palm Sunday (5 April) you could read Matthew 21 v1-11

On Good Friday (10 April) the Passion of Christ can be found in John’ Gospel 18 v1-19v42

This year’s Easter Gospel, for Easter Sunday (12 April) is John 20 v1-18

Hallelujah! Christ is risen.
He is risen indeed. Hallelujah!

Methodist Church Cancellations

Following the Methodist Church important Guidance on Covid-19, we are sorry to announce that Worship services are suspended in Dunnington Methodist for the time being in line with government guidance.

All other activities which usually take place at the chapel are also cancelled for the time being.

Lent Course

We have had three very interesting evenings on world faiths. Hopefully the speakers who were not able to come maybe be able to on another occasion.

Discipleship Day

Speaker Ven Sam Rushton, Archdeacon of York on ‘The Discipleship Journey’. This was planned for Saturday 4 April, but will now have a new date.

St Nicholas Church ACPM

Scheduled for Sunday 26th April, this will now be postponed.

Meanwhile, do prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to serve as a Churchwarden, sidesperson, Deanery Synod member or PCC member.

Dunnington Scarecrow Trail

This has been postponed, and is now planned to take place over the VJ weekend 15 and 16 August.

We will have the same theme, celebrating an event of some kind, so maybe create your scarecrow while you have more time at home over the next few weeks

Proceeds will be shared between the work of St Nicholas Church and Help the Heroes.

Benefice Weekend 2021!!

Those who went to Wydale so enjoyed the weekend we have booked again for 17 -19 September 2021.

Community Support Groups

Hopefully, by the time you are reading this, you will have received a leaflet through your letterbox, giving you contact details for the local members of your village’s newly formed Community Support Group.

These are difficult times for us all, and so each village (Dunnington, Stockton, Warthill and Holtby) has established a network of fellow
villagers who can help support local households during a period of self-isolation, whether it is be to do some shopping, walk the dog or have a friendly chat on the phone ... etc.

Do make use of this support if you need it! Your first port of call is the local contact listed on your leaflet. They will either be able to help you themselves, or will link you with another close neighbour who can. Hopefully, by keeping things very local (mostly street-level), it will mean that most of the time you recognise the person helping you. It also means that no one person is trying to do everything!

If you haven’t received a leaflet, or have lost it, don’t worry! If you need some help, or would like to offer to be a volunteer, use the
central email address and we can link you to your local contact. For Dunnington, use dunningtoncs@gmail.com. For the other
villages, use covid19eastyork@gmail.com.

If you have any concerns about the group please contact Rev Nick Bird on 01904 489349
