Staying at Home
by June Rickell
I’ve decided to stay at home today.
The weather is going to be good, they say.
I’ll do some washing, hang it on the line
Perhaps clean the birdbaths if I have the time.
At lunchtime I’ll make a sandwich or two
A nice cup of tea, a slice of cake too.
Then into my garden I’ll take all these things
And I’ll eat all my lunch while a little bird sings.
There’s a cute little robin that oft visits me
And the blue-tits are building in my birdbox I see.
The forsythia is blooming, the camelia is too
I wish I could send a picture to you.
I know it’s important for me to stay fit,
When my lunchtime is over, I mustn’t just sit.
I have in my front room a cool static bike
So instead of going outside for a hike
I’ll jump on the bike and pedal like mad
I’ll puff and I’ll blow but it isn’t too bad.
I have got a small organ, can play with one finger
If you are nearby, I suggest you don’t linger!
I’ll get out the hymn book and choose a few hymns -
It’s a shame I don’t have the ingredients for Pimms!
But I’ll have a good sing, I enjoy doing that
Then it’s onto more exercise – don’t want to get fat
I’ll reach up to ceiling then down to the floor
Ten times I will do it but really no more.
I’ll do a few crosswords and get out my books.
I’ll paint my toenails – got to keep up ‘the Looks’
And when watching TV I won’t be just sitting
Cos I’ll get out my needles and do some more knitting.
And then in the evening I’ll cook a nice dinner
Not too much of anything – I want to get thinner.
I’ll be quite worn out by the end of the day
But will enjoy tomorrow as at home I will stay.
