SWIRL
York based charity, Kyra women’s project are launching a timely initiative to connect and support vulnerable women in the rural areas surrounding the city.
The Supporting Women In Rural Locations (SWIRL) initiative aims to extend the charity’s reach by recruiting and supporting a network of voluntary female ambassadors, embedded in the heart of their local communities, who are able to connect with women in their own areas and raise awareness about the services available to help those feeling vulnerable or isolated.
‘The recent lockdown highlighted how challenging it can be for people in rural locations, so this initiative promotes the ethos that geographical isolation does not need to be a barrier to inclusion and, by working in the heart of local communities, we are able to extend a supportive, caring connection to many more women’.
Whilst Kyra does not provide crisis services, we do offer valuable connections and a space where women can find acceptance, inclusion and support, through groups, social activities, counselling and access to other services and opportunities.
Kyra women’s project was set up in 2013, specifically to help local women make positive change in their lives. Offering a range of courses, therapies, life skills and events for women, creating a safe, supportive environment enabling every woman to be the person they were always meant to be.
