On a Sunday

May 2021 Update

Our church building is re-opening to a limited degree for both public worship and private prayer, but online provision continues as well.

Sunday 8.00am Holy Communion

Sunday 2nd May will see our 8am Holy Communion service in the church building re-start (but NOT the 10.30am service as yet).

It is not expected that reserving a place will be necessary, as the church's capacity, using the nave, is twice that of the average congregation for this particular service. However, if it turns out that demand is greater than expected, we shall make sure that places can be reserved.

Sunday worship online

A pre-recorded service of worship, including a reading(s), homily, songs and prayers, is made available on our youtube channel every Sunday. The service usually lasts 30-40 minutes, and includes songs, prayers and a homily.

You can use the video to worship whenever suits you. It is usually live by the Saturday evening, and remains available thereafter.wor Many of us choose to worship together in time, if not in place, at 10.30am on a Sunday morning.

To receive a weekly email invitation to the service, when it goes live, please email Nick Bird.

Written service transcript

A written transcript for each service is made available on our transcripts page. You do not need this in order to participate in the service, as words are shown onscreen for all the songs, prayers and affirmations in which you are invited to join. We have made it available for those who cannot watch the videos, or anyone who finds it useful.

Phone

Do you know someone without internet access? They can listen anytime by phone. It's the cost of a local call and very simple to do - just dial 899433.

The information below relates to our worship before the current pandemic.

Every Sunday you will find a welcoming atmosphere at St Nicholas Church. Our 8.00am service is an intimate service focussing around the Communion and the historic words of the Book of Common Prayer. Our 10.30am Worship service is more vibrant, with music playing a large role.

The 10.30am service varies in style from week to week. On the 1st, 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month, it includes Commmunion. On the 2nd Sunday of each month, it is a lay-led service which does not include Communion. On the 3rd Sunday of the month we celebrate All-Age Communion.

Sometimes we sing hymns, accompanied by the organ, and sometimes we have more modern music led by our music group 'Laudate', and sometimes a bit of both!

One Sunday a month (usually the first, unless that falls in the school holidays) we enjoy a family-focussed service at 4.00pm with modern music by 'Laudate', drama, fresh expressions of prayer, birthday celebrations and other fun ways to worship God! This service is followed by a bring and share tea in the Tower Room.

We do not currently have a creche or Sunday school. However, there is a dedicated cosy corner in the north aisle near the entrance to the Lady Chapel. This is complete with soft furnishings and toys for the younger children and activity sheets and pens for the older ones. For more information on what we offer for children please see our Children page.

Our Youth Group 'Ignite' meets on a Sunday evening at 6.00pm, usually twice a month in term time.

We enjoy tea/coffee and biscuits and time to socialise in the Tower Room after the 10.30am service each Sunday.
