Dear neighbour

The coronavirus outbreak has affected all of us. In the days and weeks to come, we will all have hardships to bear. As well as coping with the illness itself, the social and economic consequences of isolation puts a strain on our physical and mental health.

In the face of these challenges, many in our community have come forward to ask what they could do for others. To help co-ordinate these offers, and to make the community’s response as effective as possible, the Dunnington Community Support Group was formed.

The group is organised around local teams, each covering a small area. Each team has delivered leaflets to their neighbours, so everyone in the village knows who they can ring if they need a hand. The teams all act locally but share resources and information across Dunnington.

If you would like someone to collect your shopping, or to walk your dog, or if you’d like a friendly chat on the phone, please get in touch with your local contacts. If you can offer to help, please let your local contacts know.

If you want to know more about how the group works, see the Dunnington Community Support Group Structure. And, if you haven’t received a leaflet, or have lost it, don’t worry! Find the contact for your Area Coordinator using this Plan of Dunnington Areas and Area Coordinators, and they will put you in touch with your local contact.

These are uncertain and unsettling times, but we can all take comfort in small acts of kindness generously given and graciously received. Please, if you are in any kind of need, know that you are a valued member of our community and there are people living nearby who would like to help.

P.S. If friends or relatives are looking for support, or offering support, in a different part of the country, please direct them to the Covid-19 Mutual Aid UK website, which has a tool to help people locate their local group.

P.P.S. We are compiling a simple list of guidelines for volunteers.

City of York Council has set up the email address covid19help@york.gov.uk for residents to use if they need assistance and have with no other source of help.
