AWOC York, based in Dunnington with Sue Lister as Coordinator, is delighted to announce its new website which can be found at www.awocyork.org.uk. For further information and a national overview see www.awwoc.org.

We are a group concerned about the millions of people who are ageing without the support of children – whether it’s by choice, circumstance, infertility, bereavement, estrangement or distance. There are just no adult children around to lend a hand in time of need, especially for older people. It is part of the loneliness and isolation which is being highlighted by the current Covid-19 situation.

Here in York we usually meet monthly on the second Wednesday of the month at the Cross Keys on Goodramgate, alternating between afternoons and evenings. People can join us for lunch before the afternoon meetings or stay on after the evening meetings for dinner.

During Covid-19 we are Zooming and/or Skyping weekly on Thursday mornings at 11am for a social chat. It’s a small group and anyone finding themselves ageing without the support of nearby adult children is welcome to join – just get in touch with Sue on 01904 488870.

Currently we are collecting the experiences of awocs in a C-19 Record and a survey will yield further results at the end of May. If you would like to get your voice heard and want to join our circulation list, just give Sue a ring and have a chat.

AWOC York has been meeting monthly, with a wide range of interesting speakers, since January 2016. You can find out more on our new website or by phoning Sue on 01904 488870.
