On a Sunday

The inside of St Nicholas Church during worship

Every Sunday you will find a welcoming atmosphere at St Nicholas Church. Please do join us!

Sunday 8.00am Service

1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.
An intimate service focussing around the Communion and the historic words of the Book of Common Prayer.

Sunday 10.30am Service

1st, 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. (There is a joint 10.30am service of Holy Communion in one of the Benefice churches on the 4th Sunday of each month. Check the calendar for details.
A more vibrant service with music. Some weeks this is a service of Holy Communion and other times a Service of the Word. You can find out which is happening each week by consulting the calendar. You are welcome to wear a facemask if you would like to, though it is no longer a requirement.

Receiving the sacrament during Holy Communion

The consecrated wafer (bread) is offered into the hand. There is the option of also receiving wine from the common cup or having the priest intinct (dip) your wafer into a separate chalice. If you wish to receive an intincted wafer you should collect an orange card from the dish as you come up for communion to indicate this is your preference.

Coffee is served in the Tower Room after the service.

Sunday worship online

We offer a simple online worship service each week for those who find it difficult or impossible to worship in the church building on a Sunday morning. The services are shared on our youtube channel.

Sundays at Seven

We hold informal evening services at 7pm on the 2nd Sunday ('Prayer & Praise') and 3rd Sunday ('Practising Faith') of the month.

On the 2nd Sunday of the month, our 'Prayer and Praise' service is a chance to meet together to sing hymns and songs of praise, to spend some time in prayer and enjoy each others company over refreshments.

On the 3rd Sunday of the month, our 'Practising Faith' service is a simple, informal service during which, through prayer, music, readings and discussion, we explore some aspect of today's world in the light of our faith.

Refreshments are available and all are welcome!

Family Worship

One Sunday a month (usually the first, unless that falls in the school holidays) we enjoy a family-focused service at 4.00pm with music, drama, fresh expressions of prayer, birthday celebrations and other fun ways to worship God! This service is followed by a bring and share tea in the Tower Room.

We do not currently have a creche or Sunday school. However, there are toys available in the Tower Room if required. The churchwardens can help you find them! For more information on what we offer for children please see our Children page.

Re-Ignite Youth Group

Our Youth Group 'Re-Ignite' meets monthly during termtime on a Sunday evening at 7.00pm, usually on the last Sunday of the month.
