Discipleship Day 21 September 2019

Do join us for our fourth and final Discipleship Day of 2019

on Saturday 21 September 2019

Sister Heather Francis OHP (Whitby Sisters) will be exploring prayer and spirituality under the title of

'Still point in a Turning World' (Stop the World I want to get off!)

We're rather good at telling people that they must get away, find a quiet place, sit on a pink cloud (other colours are available) and go "OM" in time with nicely modulated breathing...... we are not so good at helping them pray in the midst of LIFE in all its fullness!

Coffee available from 9.45am for a 10.00am start. Please bring something for a Bring and Share lunch, about 12.00 noon, if you are able to stay.

We have before us an amazing opportunity to impact our benefice for Christ. 98% of the people in the Church of England are not ordained and spend 95% of our lives out in society. There we have the privilege and opportunity to serve Christ in every task we do, in every encounter we have, and every place we find ourselves – in the factory as well as the sanctuary, in the primary school as well as in the Sunday school, in the team meeting as well as in the prayer meeting.

The question is: how can we make the most of that opportunity? How can we, ordained and lay together, enable one another to live out the Good News of Jesus in all our life, Monday to Saturday, as well as Sunday?

Here in the Benefice of Rural East York we want to provide the opportunity for people to grow in their discipleship, and be enabled and equipped to live that out. To do this we are organizing four Saturdays over the course of the year exploring particular themes. Each day will include some teaching, time for personal reflection and discussion, and some question and answer time. The session will finish with a bring and share lunch for those who can stay.

No need to book, but an indication of numbers would be helpful. Please speak to Rev. Nick Bird for further information.
